PROSTHETIC EQUIPMENT & SERVICES

Veterans Integrated Services Networks (VISNs)/medical facilities will provide medically necessary prosthetic appliances, devices, equipment and services for any condition to veterans receiving VA care in accordance with existing policy. Generally all veterans enrolled in the VA health care system are eligible for all needed prosthetics, medical equipment and supplies. Certain veterans are eligible for needed prosthetics, medical equipment, and supplies even though not enrolled. The two most significant groups of veterans who do not need to be enrolled are:


VHA Enrollment NOT Required:

1. Veterans needing prosthetics, medical equipment, and supplies for a service connected disability, and

2. Veterans with a service connected disability rated at least 50%.

Aids for the Blind and Visually Impaired

Clothing Allowance

Prosthetics is responsible for administering the Clothing Allowance benefit program. While this benefit is not provided specifically for vision loss, blinded veterans who are service-disabled may qualify based on other eligibility factors. The Clothing Allowance is paid annually and can now be awarded for multiple allowances. Automobile Adaptive Equipment (AAE)

Prosthetics is responsible for administering the Automobile Adaptive Equipment program. This is a separate benefit from the one time Automobile Grant and is designed to assist eligible veterans enter, exit, and/or operate a motor vehicle or other conveyance.
