On Tuesday, March 20, BVA’s national officers held a series of very productive meetings with members of the House and Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committees, as well as members of the House Committee on Appropriations. We were pleased to see strong evidence of bipartisan support for an increase in appropriations for the Vision Research Program operated by DoD.
We were also heartened by the level of interest expressed by members from both sides of the aisle in addressing BVA’s other legislative priorities, such as increasing access to local transportation options, insuring greater compliance with Section 508 accessibility guidelines by the VA, and expansion of caregiver benefits to veterans of pre-9/11 conflicts. We are hopeful that some positive proposals will follow as a result of these meetings, so stay in touch for more information during the next few months.
