Position: Secondary Science Teacher

Position Requirements:
  • Must hold a current Alabama State Department of Education Teacher Certificate in the area of General Science (6-12).
  • May be required to possess a valid Alabama Driver’s License and may be asked to obtain the Alabama School bus Driver’s License/CDL within the first 12 months of employment. If required, applicant must be able to be insured by the AIDB insurance carrier.
  • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Braille, including becoming a National Library of Congress certified Braille Transcriptionist within the first thirty (30) months of employment.
  • Must be certified in visual impairment or be willing to gain such certification within the first thirty (30) months of employment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • The successful applicant must submit to a criminal history background information check including, but not limited to FBI and ABI record repositories. Upon offer of employment, the applicant must present a non-refundable fee of $49.65 and appear for scheduled finger printing appointment.
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter as outlined in the Alabama State Department of Education curriculum.
  • Demonstrate the ability to teach subject matter as outline in the Alabama State Department of Education curriculum.
  • Participate in development of students’ IEP based on curricular guidelines.
  • Implement student IEP’s.
  • Review and update IEP’s.
  • Serve as case manager.
  • Perform functional vision assessment as needed.
  • Maintain all required records and prepare necessary reports.
  • Use existing and new student information systems.
  • Protect confidentiality of student information.
  • Participate in student staffing as necessary.
  • Recommendations regarding equipment and services should be developed cooperatively with the administration.
  • Prepare lesson plans and curricular guidelines (pacing guides).
  • Assess classroom/instructional needs, prepare classroom/instructional supply and equipment needs.
  • Participate in assessing and making recommendations for departmental supply and equipment needs.
  • Take class roll and report absentees each class period.
  • Maintain an orderly classroom.
  • Perform functional vision assessment as needed.
  • Prepare and display bulletin boards with educational themes
  • Chaperone students on field trips
  • Maintain classroom discipline.
  • Establish and implement classroom behavior management plans.
  • Become familiar and adhere to rules, regulations and policies of ASB and AIDB.
  • Work and cooperate with staff members, support personnel and administration to provide for the welfare and best interest of the students.
  • Exercise the code of ethics in the teaching profession.
  • Create, review and update the curriculum as necessary.
  • Attend departmental and campus-wide faculty and committee meetings.
  • Participate in training sessions and workshops provided.
  • Supervise and work cooperatively with teacher aides assigned to the classroom.
  • Establish and keep an open line of communication with all parents.
  • Demonstrate professionalism at all times ex. Dress, behavior, etc.
  • Deal with emergencies in a calm and logical manner.
  • Maintain adequate AIDB inventory of equipment that is properly maintained and serviceable.
  • Assist ASB with special activities and programs.
  • May be required to attend any extracurricular activities that may be held on campus.
  • Serve as a role model to students with professional behaviors.
  • Keep abreast of current research and teaching strategies.
  • Become familiar with the implementation of technology for the visually impaired into the classroom.
  • Must be willing to learn and implement new ideas and programs.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlines in the AIDB Policy and Procedure manual.
  • Follow the ASB student handbook.
  • Willing to go above and beyond a normal school day.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SALARY: $39,789 - $52,992 Scale l1 Rank 2T (BS-Class B Certification)

SALARY: $46,639 - $60,865 Scale l1 Rank 1T (MA-Class A Certification)

SALARY: $49,650 - $64,321 Scale l1 Rank AA (AA Certification)

Direct deposit is required.
This is an exempt position and is not subject to overtime or compensatory provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
