The scheduled meeting of the BVA Book Club for Wednesday evening, November 26 (Thanksgiving Eve), has been suspended due to possible conflicts with holiday preparations for the following day. The club will likely resume meeting sometime in December but probably not on the scheduled Wednesday, December 24 date when a potential holiday conflict could also occur.

Group Leader Anthony Woodson advises both current readers and those new to the book club to start and/or continue their reading and analysis of the November book of choice. Having enjoyed one Grisham novel, club members determined to read a Grisham legal thriller, The Appeal, narrated by Jim Zeiger.

The 13:05 (13 hours and 5 minutes) reading extravaganza explores the influence of money in politics and its impact on the judicial system, a notable theme being the corruption of justice when political and financial interests override the rule of law. A chemical company’s toxic waste causes a cancer cluster in a small town. After a Mississippi jury returned a guilty verdict against the company, the latter appealed to the State Supreme Court. During judicial elections, the company’s owner tries to plant his own justice on the bench.

BVA members can access the book via The National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled Braille and Audio Reading Download (BARD) catalog number, which is DB65629.
