The NVSSC is a one of a kind adapted sports program for U.S. Military Service Veterans from across the
nation dealing with amputations, spinal cord injuries, orthopedic injuries, visual impairments, certain
neurological problems, PTSD, burns, and TBI/Polytrauma injuries. The NVSSC is organized by the U.S.
Department of Veterans Affairs with support of numerous sponsors, including Wounded Warrior Project
and the Veterans Canteen Service. The 2021 NVSSC will feature the following sports: cycling,
foundations “adaptive fitness”, surfing, kayaking, & sailing. The NVSSC exemplifies VA’s commitment to
improve the quality of life for Veterans with disabilities. The mission of this innovative program is to
provide a training ground for both Veterans and health care providers in exciting outdoor summer
sports. The overall objective is to instill the rehabilitation value of leisure pursuits as a viable means to
aid in community reintegration and build a strong foundation which will further Veterans’ dedication to
better health and a rewarding lifestyle.
