The Blinded Veterans Association Book Club

Participation:

  1. The book club is open to all members of the Blinded Veterans Association (BVA).
  2. Participants should have a passion for reading and discussing books.
  3. There are no restrictions based on reading ability or preference.

Meeting Frequency:

  1. The book club will meet once monthly on the 4th Wednesday at 7 pm EST.
  2. Meetings will typically last one (1) hour.
  3. The agenda will consist of an opening prayer, book selection review (30 minutes), next book selection (15 minutes), open discussion (10 minutes), and benediction.

Book Selection:

  1. The initial book selection will be “Caution, Blind Priest Driving” (DB107915), subsequent selections will be chosen by participants via a voting process.
  2. Suggestions for book selections can be submitted by any participant of the club.
  3. Books selected should encompass a variety of genres, authors, and themes to cater to diverse interests.
  4. Consideration will be given to books on BARD.

Facilitator(s):

At the initial meeting of the book club, a group facilitator and assistant will be selected by participants to guide meetings.

Discussion Guidelines:

  1. Discussions will be conducted in a respectful and inclusive manner.
  2. Participants are encouraged to share their thoughts, opinions, and interpretations of the book.
  3. Discussions should focus on the themes, characters, writing style, and other literary aspects of the book.
  4. Participants should avoid spoilers for those who have not finished the book yet.
  5. Participants should be mindful of differing perspectives and experiences.

Meeting Platform:

  1. Meetings take place virtually via Zoom.

Attendance:

  1. Regular attendance is encouraged, but not mandatory.
  2. Participants should notify the group facilitator if they are unable to attend a meeting.

Conduct:

  1. Participants are expected to adhere to the BVA code of conduct and values during book club meetings.This includes avoiding discussion of politics or religion.
  2. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated, and may result in removal from the club.

Enjoyment:

  1. The primary goal of the book club is to foster a love of reading, meaningful discussions, and camaraderie among participants.
  2. Participants are encouraged to have fun, explore new literary horizons, and build lasting friendships through their shared love of books.
