Blind and low vision veterans 55 years of age: Please make yourselves available promptly at 10:00am Eastern Time on Tuesday, January 28, the moment for both the visually impaired and wheelchair divisions to register for this year’s Golden Age Games in Memphis, Tennessee, May 31-June 5. The ambulatory division will begin registering the following day, January 29.

This year’s games will mean a little more to BVA than usual as members of the Tennessee Regional Group, traditionally some of the most active participant winners at the games, anticipate enjoying the competition in their own backyard. Learn more about this year’s games and register to participate.

Even before the Veterans Administration was elevated to the cabinet-level Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in 1989, VA was inspired by programs that promote healthy aging, fitness, and recreation. That inspiration was transformed into action in 1985 with the formation of the National Veterans Golden Age Games. Specific goals of the new program at the time underscored the preventive and therapeutic value of sports medicine for older veterans who receive health care at VA facilities.
