Officials at Meta (formerly Facebook) have sent a written expression of thanks to BVA Executive Director Dr. Vernon Humphrey and Legislative Director Lea Rowe for attending and contributing to a DC Connect Happy Hour Reception on September 18 in the Nation’s Capital. Last week’s BVA Happenings included a brief recap of the worldwide virtual event that originated in Menlo Park, California, and specifically BVA’s involvement.

During the DC Happy Hour, Vern took the microphone to explain BVA’s development of a guide to teach veterans how to use AI Ray-Ban Glasses, which will help them with daily living and to navigate the world with greater autonomy, confidence, and connection, complementing other skills learned at Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Blind Rehabilitation Centers.

“A heartfelt thank you to the leaders from Be My Eyes, the Blinded Veterans Association, and Agerpoint for sharing how you’re making a positive impact with wearable devices like Ray Ban Meta AI glasses,” the statement read. “Your insights have inspired us with how you’re supporting blind and low vision communities, veterans, and farmers.”

The DC event followed Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg’s keynote address in which he shared the latest on AI glasses and laid out Meta’s vision for artificial intelligence and the metaverse.
