Longtime BVA friend Gale Roberson Watson, always a staunch advocate for blinded veterans and who constantly championed the work done on their behalf, passed away on October 13 from causes incident to Alzheimer’s Disease.

Gale retired as National Director for Blind Rehabilitation Services at VA in 2018 after a long and distinguished career of service to those with blindness and low vision through clinical care, education, research, and international consulting.

In addition to several recognitions from BVA, Gale garnered numerous other honors and awards throughout her career, the last in 2022 when she was awarded the Migel Medal, the highest honor given by the American Foundation for the Blind for dedication and achievements in the blindness field. She forged a close professional relationship and friendship with BVA’s National Board of Directors and the Association’s Executive Directors during her tenure, Tom Miller and Al Avina.

Gale moved from the Washington, DC, area to Davidson, North Carolina, following her retirement. A celebration of her life will be held later and will be announced. Read the complete obituary.
