Building on its foundation as a beacon of hope and advocacy for more than 80 years, BVA will resume its efforts to empower the Association’s membership to make a difference in their communities by launching a new virtual Ambassador training class next Tuesday, September 16. Program participants will meet via Zoom on the first three Tuesdays of each month until February 24, 2026, with classes scheduled from 2:00-3:30pm Eastern Time.
BVA Ambassadors and Requisite Training
A BVA Ambassador is a dedicated individual who has successfully graduated from the training class and serves as an outreach representative for other blinded veterans. The course will cover essential information about the various VA benefits and resources available to blind and low vision veterans.
While Ambassadors will not be trained to be Veteran National Service Officers, they will gain valuable knowledge on where to direct fellow veterans for assistance.
Ambassadors can choose to volunteer at their local clinics through the VA Center for Development and Civic Engagement or provide support remotely via phone. This role is not only rewarding but also vital in fostering a sense of community among blinded veterans.
Eligibility to Apply
While not everyone may feel suited to be an Ambassador, the training offers a fantastic opportunity to learn more about BVA, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and accessibility resources. Ideally, applicants should possess at least limited computer skills, including the ability to log onto Zoom calls, send and receive emails, and, if necessary, use a screen reader.
If you have already applied to attend the course, you should have already received an email message that announced the new start date. If not and you are still interested in becoming a BVA Ambassador, please apply here.
Join Us in Making a Difference!
Becoming a BVA Ambassador is more than just a title. It is a chance to make a meaningful impact on the lives of fellow veterans. By sharing knowledge and experiences, veterans can help others navigate the challenges of vision loss and connect them with the resources they need. Together, we can continue to uphold the BVA mission and ensure that no blinded veteran feels alone.
