Members of BVA’s Greater Houston Regional Group gathered last Friday at one of the city’s 12 popular Health Department Multi-Purpose Centers to celebrate BVA’s 80th anniversary.

Stephanie Haechten, representing the City of Houstons Mayor’s Office, read a proclamation from Mayor John Whitmire and presented it to Regional Group President Armsted J. Chambers and Vice President Regina Haynesworth Thurston.  BVA National Vice President Wade Davis presented a historical overview of the Association and Past National President Dr. Tom Zampieri delivered a legislative update.

“Refreshments were served as the capstone of the event and everyone had a great time celebrating this significant milestone,” Armsted reported.

Also in attendance and speaking were Joseph Fleeks from Adaptive Sports of the Houston Mult-Purpose Center, Hannah Walker from Houston Parks and Recreation, and Ashley Higgins from the Houston VA VISOR Clinic.

A variety of vendors shared information about their organizations, including Texas Talking Books, the iBUG Club, Metro Lift Services, the Houston Council for the Blind, Visually Impaired Advocates Greater Houston Chapter, and The Houston Delta Gamma Foundation.
