BVA members Lonnie Bedwell and Shawn Cheshire are now ever closer to reaching the top of Mount Everest and Mount Lohtse. A critical factor in the training and preparation has been adapting to the lack of oxygen at the altitudes at which they are now finding themselves (26,000-29,000 feet above sea level). On Tuesday (May 16), the teams received the green light to start climbing again after 15 days at base camp and on Wednesday morning they were scheduled to start working their way through an icefall.

“If all goes as planned, we will summit Everest on May 21 and Lhotse on May 23,” Lonnie wrote on a social media post last Tuesday. “Thoughts and prayers appreciated while we are out of communication service for 9-10 days.”
