NSITE, an initiative of the National Industries for the Blind (NIB), will soon launch two virtual training programs for the blind and visually impaired in the field of employment. The deadline to apply to participate in both programs is October 1.

The focus of NSITE’s Sourcing Certificate Program focuses on the tools, resources, and research needed to recruit qualified candidates for employment while the NSITE Cisco Academy prepares participants to become Cisco Certified Network Associates in the Information Technology field, a certification used throughout the IT industry. The Academy is adapted to the learning styles of people who are blind or visually impaired.

Key Components of the NSITE Sourcing Igniting Power Certificate Program

  • Learning the tools for Identifying candidates proactively for upcoming positions.
  • Learning styles of collecting and analyzing data about qualified candidates.
  • Actively bridging the gap between being passive and active job seekers.
  • Creating and maintain a sourcing pipeline.

What is the schedule for the current program?
The Sourcing program is a 30 week intensive remote training program with 20 weeks of virtual instructor led lessons and self-paced content with weekly check-ins and 10 weeks in the “Experience Accelerator Incubator” which provides the opportunity to apply what they’ve learned in the first part of the program with corporate recruiters.

Who is Eligible for the NSITE Sourcing Igniting Power Certificate Program?
The NSITE Sourcing Certificate program is exclusively for people who are blind or visually impaired. Medical documentation of legal blindness is required.
Applicants must be able to commit to the 30-week training program.

NSITE Cisco Academy, adapted to the learning styles of people who are blind or visually impaired, provides foundational knowledge of a broad range of IT fundamentals, preparing participants to pass the Cisco Certified Network Associates exam and take their careers in any direction they wish.

Key Components of the NSITE Cisco Academy
Professional Certification. Participants who complete the NSITE Cisco Academy become Cisco Certified Network Associates, a certification recognized throughout the IT industry.
Workplace Preparation. Students attending the NSITE Cisco Academy participate in workshops and one-on-one consultations on topics from resume writing and mock interviews, to professional networking and workplace etiquette. After earning their Cisco Certified Network Associate certification, NSITE can work to assist participants in obtaining internships or jobs with businesses.

What is the schedule for the current program?
The 40-week instructor-led training program is conducted using a virtual classroom two days per week, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. ET. Student’s study and complete lab assignments on their own time.

Who is eligible for the NSITE Cisco Academy?
The NSITE Cisco Academy is exclusively for people who are blind or visually impaired.
Medical documentation of legal blindness is required.
Applicants should have a four-year college degree, preferably with a focus in Computer Science, or comparable work experience in the IT field building mainframes or computers in a lab, or teaching computer security, or as certified IT employees.
Applicants must be able to commit to an intensive 40-week training program.
