The Spring series of the Gardening Interest Group facilitated by Monique Statham blooms Monday, April 14, and continues weekly until May 12. Open to all blind and low vision veterans via Zoom on Monday evenings at 6:00pm Eastern Time, the series will focus on planting seeds, preparing the gardening areas in the ground and in containers, and the growing and harvesting process. At BVA Happenings press time, abundant space for participants is still available.
The first ten BVA members to sign up for the series have been promised a free gardening kit courtesy of Team BVA. One or two kits also remain and will be provided for new participants only. To qualify for a kit, please complete immediately the Team BVA Registration Form by clicking the button below. Be sure to select the Gardening option from the dropdown menu.
Recent VA Whole Health research supports the value of gardening in improving sleep, creating social connections, and elevating one’s spirit! As a low impact form of exercise, working in a flower or vegetable garden improves muscle and bone strength, flexibility, and heart health. Enjoying the fruits (and veggies) of challenging labor adds fiber and nutrients to our diet, and being outside in the sunshine boosts our immune system.
