Join BVA’s VetTech Team this Wednesday, June 7, at 2:00pm Eastern Time as the Weekly Wednesday Webinar welcomes Orcam’s Michelle Mendez, National Sales Director, and Corinne Nero, Area Sales Manager. The two will discuss the award-winning Artificial Intelligence (AI) behind the OrCam MyEye Pro and MyEye Read. Such AI capabilities empower blind and low vision veterans to recognize everything from the written word and currency to family and friends.

Do not miss this VetTech session! Participants will receive:

  • An overview of the MyEye Pro.
  • An overview of the MyEye Read.
  • An Overview of OrCam’s Artificial Intelligence.

Would you like to learn more about using a keyboard with an iPhone or iPad? On Thursday, June 8, at the same 2:00pm hour and in an informal discussion format, VetTech Talk will explore keyboard navigation using iOS devices. Pairing a keyboard to such devices will simplify navigation and make typing easier.

This past week, with a Weekly Wednesday Webinar presentation from Willem Van de Mierop, co-founder of AYES, Inc., VetTech focused on a newly developed mobile app known as OKO. The app looks to help the blind and low vision explore cities more effortlessly, providing them with status messages related to pedestrian crossing at traffic signals. The purpose of the app is to prevent the blind and low vision from veering outside of a crosswalk or other marked path. VetTech Talk recapped the Wednesday discussion and addressed the use of iOS health and mobile apps in improving one’s health.

All VetTech webinars and talk sessions are currently open to everyone—blind and low vision veterans and nonveterans, family members, caregivers, blind rehabilitation specialists, and all other parties interested in assistive, adaptive, and accessible technology that can result in greater independence. Membership in BVA or attendance at previous sessions is not a pre-requisite to join VetTech or VetTech Talk sessions.

Can’t make it to a live session? No problem! VetTech is now available as a podcast on major platforms. Interested parties can listen on demand to missed Weekly Wednesday Webinars as well as original content published solely on the podcast by asking their smart speaker, Siri or Alexa, to “play the latest episode of the Blinded Veterans Association VetTech Podcast.” They can also follow the channel via Apple Podcast, Google Play, and Amazon Music.
