Join BVA’s VetTech Team this Wednesday, March 22, at 2:00pm Eastern Time as we welcome Mathieu Paquette, Product Manager at Humanware. Mathieu will discuss the recently launched Stellar Trek, the latest in standalone Orientation and Mobility devices for the blind that combines pinpoint accurate GPS capabilities with turn-by-turn navigation. Even more important, impressive, and specific to the Stellar trek is the new AI assistance that recognizes addresses and doors so that veterans with vision loss can confidently navigate those final steps toward a destination.

Do not miss this VetTech session! Participants will learn:

  • What the Stellar Trek is.
  • Orientation and Mobility capabilities of the Stellar Trek.
  • How to use the recently developed AI to recognize addresses and doors.

Are you wondering how to make navigating MacOS with VoiceOver more efficient? On Thursday, March 23, the regularly scheduled VetTech Talk will cover VoiceOver Commanders. The Commanders simplify keyboard commands to just a single key or pair of keys. VetTech Talk will also review the previous day’s webinar and address follow-up questions. VetTech Talk occurs every Thursday at the same 2:00pm starting time using the same Zoom link.

This past week, BVA’s VetTech team and Brian Moon, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Perigean Technologies, addressed Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) research efforts to understand how veterans and caregivers interact with VA websites and mobile applications through the Veteran Usability Project and, as a result of the findings of such research, the implications for BVA and veterans with sight loss.

All VetTech webinars and talk sessions are open to everyone—blind and low vision veterans, family members, caregivers, blind rehabilitation specialists, and all other parties interested in assistive, adaptive, and accessible technology that can empower independence.

Can’t make it to a live session? No problem! VetTech is now available as a podcast on major platforms. You can catch up on missed Weekly Wednesday Webinars as well as original content published solely on the podcast by asking your smart speaker, Siri, or Alexa to “play the latest episode of the Blinded Veterans Association VetTech podcast.” You can also currently follow the channel through Apple Podcast, Google Play, and Amazon Music.
