BVA National Headquarters wishes all Association members and their families, the organization’s generous sponsors and friends, and hundreds of other loyal supporters a very Happy Veterans Day. The theme selected by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Veterans Day National Committee (VDNC) for this year’s Veterans Day observance at Arlington National Cemetery is “A Legacy of Loyalty and Service.” VDNC challenged professional and amateur artists nationwide to create a poster that reflected that theme.
The contest competition was both diverse and intense. There were more than 150 entries from people ranging from school-age children to graphic designers with decades of experience. When all ballots were tallied, VDNC ultimately selected the design created by Myisha Godette. A retired, disabled Army veteran from Queens, New York, Myisha’s design was driven by a desire to represent all who have served.
“As a veteran, I’ve sometimes felt underrepresented, prompting me to consider how best to incorporate inclusivity and the essence of loyalty and service,” Myisha has said. “Ultimately, I chose to symbolize the shared experience of service members—past, present, and future—with elements like the American Flag, military “dog tags,” and the enduring strength of veterans, embodied by a solid, dark concrete background in my design.”
The Veterans Day poster has been displayed the past 30-45 days in VA facilities, military installations, and municipal buildings across the United States. It also serves as the cover of the official program for Monday’s national observance. BVA National President Paul Mimms will be seated on the stand with President Joseph R. Biden, Jr., VA Secretary Denis McDonough, and the National Presidents and National Commanders of more than 25 other Military and Veterans Service Organizations.
