Last summer, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced plans to begin transitioning veterans to a more modern, streamlined online login process to access benefit and health care services. In 2025, veterans will transition from four sign-in account options (login.gov, ID.me, MyHealtheVet, and DS Logon) to two (login.gov, ID.me) in order to access VA.gov, VA mobile apps, and other VA online services. VA has been supporting the transition through consistent outreach and training to make it successful, especially for those using assistive devices such as screen readers.

Both of the remaining options meet modern security standards, protecting veterans’ data and providing access to VA and other government services.

“BVA was among the organizations that advocated for the streamlining of these processes.” said National Executive Director Donald D. Overton, Jr. “VA listened to our input and gave us another small victory.”

After January 31, 2025, veterans will not be able to sign in to VA websites and apps with a MyHealthVet user ID and password. The MyHealtheVet health portal is not going away, but the way veterans sign in is changing.

After September 30, 2025, veterans will not be able to sign in with a DS Logon username and password.

If veterans are unsure whether they have a Login.gov or ID.me account, the simplest approach is to try creating a new account with their email address. If they already have an account but do not know their password, Login.gov or ID.me will help them reset their password.
