Join BVA’s VetTech Team this Wednesday, June 14, at 2:00pm Eastern Time as the Weekly Wednesday Webinar welcomes Liz Whitaker, Product Manager for User Education and Outreach for Vispero. Liz will focus on working with PDFs. Whether you are reading a “how to” guide or completing a fillable form, reading and interacting with PDFs is a critical skill to learn. Fusion and JAWS, originated by Freedom Scientific, host an array of features that makes completing these tasks a breeze.

Do not miss this VetTech session! Participants will receive:

  • How to interact with and read a PDF.
  • How to complete a fillable PDF.
  • How to leverage the Convenient OCR, a feature built into JAWS, to recognize or convert a PDF to a Word document.
  • How to use other advanced features to interact with PDFs.

Are you interested in discussing with other blind and low vision individuals how they work with PDF documents? On Thursday, June 15, at the same 2:00pm hour and in an informal discussion format, VetTech Talk will recap the Weekly Wednesday Webinar and continue the conversation about PDFs. We will review the tips and tricks Liz presents and how to perform similar functions using other platforms.

This past week, with a Weekly Wednesday Webinar presentation from OrCam’s Michelle Mendez and Corinne Nero, VetTech focused on the empowering capabilities of the company’s premier Artificial Intelligence devices, the MyEye Pro and the MyEye Read. VetTech Talk the following day summarized the previous day’s webinar and explored keyboard navigation using an iPhone or iPad. Participants learned that pairing a keyboard to such devices simplifies navigation and makes typing considerably easier.

All VetTech webinars and talk sessions are currently open to everyone—blind and low vision veterans and nonveterans, family members, caregivers, blind rehabilitation specialists, and all other parties interested in assistive, adaptive, and accessible technology that can result in greater independence. Membership in BVA or attendance at previous sessions is not a pre-requisite to join VetTech or VetTech Talk sessions.

Can’t make it to a live session? No problem! VetTech is now available as a podcast on major platforms. Interested parties can listen on demand to missed Weekly Wednesday Webinars as well as original content published solely on the podcast by asking their smart speaker, Siri or Alexa, to “play the latest episode of the Blinded Veterans Association VetTech Podcast.” They can also follow the channel via Apple Podcast, Google Play, and Amazon Music.
