Join BVA’s VetTech Team this Wednesday, July 19, at 2:00pm Eastern Time as the Weekly Wednesday Webinar welcomes Amos Miller, co-founder of Glidance, a company committed to changing the world for the better through advanced autonomous driving and robotics technology. Amos lost his sight in his 20s and struggled with using a cane. His experience inspired him to use his tech expertise to develop something more helpful.

The development of Glide has placed Glidance at the forefront of the orientation and mobility revolution. The device incorporates robotics, sensors, and software to provide a balance of support and independence. Designed ergonomically, Glide is accessible and customizable to individual needs. It also provides haptic and audio feedback, providing for a safe walking experience.

Do not miss this VetTech session! Participants will receive:

  • An overview of Glide.
  • An explanation of the technology behind the development and everyday use of Glide.
  • Details about how to experience Glide at the upcoming BVA 78th National Convention and in the Seattle area specifically.

In a more informal setting and exchange than the Weekly Wednesday Webinars, join VetTech Talk on Thursday, July 20, at the same 2:00pm Eastern Time start for a review of Amos’s presentation and further discussion about MacOS from the perspective of the blind. The open conversation will enable participants to share their feedback about the monthly MacOS training series and propose topics for the future.

This past week, VetTech’s Wednesday Webinar featured the second of several visits of convention sponsors. Liz Whitaker, Product Manager for User Education and Research for Vispero, addressed the recent rollout of several newly updated features and advancements to Freedom Scientific’s JAWS, Fusion, and ZoomText. Yesterday’s VetTech Talk reviewed Liz’s presentation, stimulating additional discussion during the session about the JAWS, Fusion, and ZoomText updates.

All VetTech webinars and talk sessions are currently open to everyone—blind and low vision veterans and nonveterans, family members, caregivers, blind rehabilitation specialists, and all other parties interested in assistive, adaptive, and accessible technology that can result in greater independence. Membership in BVA or attendance at previous sessions is not a pre-requisite to join VetTech or VetTech Talk sessions.

Did you miss the most recent session for some reason? No problem! VetTech is now available as a podcast on major platforms. Interested parties can listen on demand to missed Weekly Wednesday Webinars as well as original content published solely on the podcast by asking their Smart speaker, Siri, or Alexa, to “play the latest episode of the Blinded Veterans Association VetTech Podcast.” They can also follow the channel via Apple Podcast, Google Play, and Amazon Music.
