Join BVA’s VetTech Team this Wednesday, September 27, at 2:00pm Eastern Time as the Weekly Wednesday Webinar welcomes Freek van Welsenis, co-founder of the Dutch start-up “Hable One,” and Jose Cintron of Florida Vision Technology. The Hable One external keyboard simplifies Smartphone (or tablet) use for individuals with sight loss through its intuitive touch commands, making navigation essentially effortless for all!

Hable One is small enough to carry with you wherever you go, and its impact on daily device use can be literally life-changing. Hable One’s easy operation allows a blind individual to easily understand the touch screen and different types of taps and swipes, thus enabling greater accessibility.

Do not miss this VetTech session and instrumental learning opportunity! Participants will receive:

  • An overview of the Hable One.
  • Instruction on the use of the Hable One’s two modes.
  • Case histories and examples relating to successful use of the Hable One.

In a more informal setting and discussion format than the webinar, VetTech Talk is held weekly on Thursdays at 2:00pm Eastern Time. The sessions generally consist of a recap, review, and additional discussion of the previous day’s webinar. Although Thursday’s session (September 28) of VetTech Talk may follow the same format at the beginning of the session, it will continue the MacOS training series after review of the webinar. Apple will release MacOS 14 Sonoma next Tuesday, September 26, bringing several new features to the Mac. Join VetTech Talk to learn how this update will affect blind and low vision users.

Not a BVA member? No problem! All VetTech webinars and talk sessions are currently open to everyone—blind and low vision veterans and nonveterans, family members, caregivers, blind rehabilitation specialists, and all other parties interested in assistive, adaptive, and accessible technology that can result in greater independence. Membership in BVA or attendance at previous sessions is not a pre-requisite to join the VetTech webinars or VetTech Talk sessions.

Did you miss the most recent virtual sessions for some reason? No problem! VetTech is now available as a podcast on major platforms. Interested parties can listen on demand to missed Weekly Wednesday Webinars as well as original content published solely on the podcast by asking their Smart speaker, Siri, or Alexa, to “play the latest episode of the Blinded Veterans Association VetTech Podcast.” They can also follow the channel via Apple Podcast, Google Play, and Amazon Music.

The VetTech Weekly Wednesday Webinar this past week focused on the newly available and much anticipated Apple iOS 17 update, compatible with mobile devices purchased after 2017. Although Apple leaders originally intended iOS 17 as a “tune-up release,” it turned out to be much more, especially for blind users, with the addition of several features late in the development process.
