When Sight Fades, Community Brings Light
Veterans Day holds a special meaning for BVA member Jill Hinton Wolfe, but when she lost her sight to a degenerative eye disease, Veterans Day took on a new layer of significance. Veterans Day has always emphasized the importance of community and honoring those who came before, but now Jill understands how important it is to help those who come after.
When Jill first lost her sight, she felt unmoored and lost her identity. Through BVA, she found a community that refused to let her disappear into isolation and helped remind her that sight loss does not mean the loss of vision. Today, with her guide dog Hannah at her side, she is an author, speaker, and advocate for veterans navigating sight loss.
Donate this Veterans Day and become part of the BVA community – bringing light to blind and low vision veterans as they navigate sight loss.
