If you are ready for an unforgettable winter adventure in the tops of the Rocky Mountains with 80 fellow blind and low vision veterans and disabled veterans, begin now to prepare your application materials for the 39th Annual VA National Disabled Veterans Winter Sports Clinic (WSC). The event in Snowmass, Colorado, will take place March 30-April 5, 2025. Those interested are encouraged to register soon at the WSC website to ensure a spot. According to VA, application materials were to be uploaded in mid-August.
Whether you are a seasoned skier or have never hit the slopes before, there is something for everyone. Try your hand at downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, or snowshoeing. But that’s not all! The clinic also offers exciting activities like fly fishing, scuba diving, curling, and yoga. The WSC is an opportunity to explore new sports interests and make lasting memories.
Worried about meals? Don’t be! All meals during the event are provided. Plus, transportation and housing subsidies may be available through your Visual Impairment Services Team Coordinator or the Challenged Athletes Foundation.
If standing for long periods is a concern, no worries! You can experience the thrill of skiing in a chair ski, or using a mono-ski or a bi-ski where you’ll sit comfortably while an instructor guides you down the mountain.
For more information, visit the WSC website or contact your VIST Coordinator or Outdoor Recreation Therapist at your local VA facility. Additionally, you can send an email to TeamBVA@BVA.org. Again, remember to apply early since extra time is often needed to work with your VA doctor to complete a portion of your application.
Don’t miss out on this amazing opportunity. It’s time to do something different, fun, and exhilarating!
