Join BVA’s VetTech Team this Wednesday, June 21, at 2:00pm Eastern Time as the Weekly Wednesday Webinar welcomes Henry Johns, Chief Innovator and Founder of Digital FOV, LLC, and blinded veteran Chuck Smith. The pair will discuss Digital Crosshairs 1000SA, the company’s rifle scope clip-on device that assists individuals with a wide variety and range of disabilities. The revolutionary but simple device facilitates rifle scope usage by blind and low vision veterans, enabling them to enjoy hunting and other shooting sports independently after years of believing that such experiences were no longer possible.

Do not miss this VetTech session! Participants will be provided with:

  • An overview of the Digital Crosshairs 1000SA adaptive rifle scope clip-on, which will include mention of specific components and characteristics that allow for ease of installation.
  • Interesting anecdotes, including a few success stories, relating to the use and enjoyment of the Digital Crosshairs 1000SA by blind and low vision veterans as they independently engage in hunting and other shooting sports.
  • Information on how to secure the Digital Crosshairs 1000SA as adaptive recreational equipment through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Blind Rehabilitation Service (BRS).

Are you interested in exploring with other blind and low vision individuals the opportunities to enjoy the outdoors through constantly evolving and improving adaptive recreational equipment? On Thursday, June 22, at the same 2:00pm hour and in an informal discussion format, VetTech Talk will recap the Weekly Wednesday Webinar and pursue a general conversation about outdoor solutions to the challenges of adapting to sight loss. We will review some of the major characteristics and advantages of the Digital Crosshairs 1000SA.

This past week, with a Weekly Wednesday Webinar presentation delivered by Liz Whitaker, Product Manager for User Education and Outreach for Vispero, VetTech focused on working with PDF documents using Freedom Scientific’s Fusion and JAWS. The session covered the ease of reading PDFs, completing fillable forms, and converting documents into Microsoft Word when Fusion and JAWS are used to their maximum potential. The Thursday VetTech Talk session welcomed further discussion about the relevance of PDF documents and how to work with them.

All VetTech webinars and talk sessions are currently open to everyone—blind and low vision veterans and nonveterans, family members, caregivers, blind rehabilitation specialists, and all other parties interested in assistive, adaptive, and accessible technology that can result in greater independence. Membership in BVA or attendance at previous sessions is not a pre-requisite to join VetTech or VetTech Talk sessions.

Did you have a conflicting commitment and miss the most recent session? No problem! VetTech is now available as a podcast on major platforms. Interested parties can listen on demand to missed Weekly Wednesday Webinars as well as original content published solely on the podcast by asking their smart speaker, Siri or Alexa, to “play the latest episode of the Blinded Veterans Association VetTech Podcast.” They can also follow the channel via Apple Podcast, Google Play, and Amazon Music.
