Veterans Urged to Increase Their Awareness of Potential Services and Benefits
Even after enrolling in VA health care, some veterans remain unaware of the wide range of assistance available to buy, retain, or modify their home; earn a college degree; start a career; stay healthy; and build on the foundations of financial health, physical health, and emotional health that they have established for their lives during their military service. A few forms of specific assistance are included in the following. Each of the points includes at least one link to an online source of information and assistance.

- Appoint an attorney, claims agent, or Veterans Service Officer to assist with VA claims.
- Search for a new VA-accredited representative or another person to help you apply.
- Download a directory of Veterans Service Organizations.
- Request your military services records online. This can include DD214s and/or separation documents, personnel records, replacement medals, and/or medical records.
- Request Veterans Service Officer representation by filling out VA Form 21-22 (PDF) and mailing or submitting it to the nearest VA benefits office.
- Request accredited attorney or claims agent representation by mailing or hand-delivering VA Form 21-22a (PDF) to the agent you searched for and selected.
- Visit your state’s VA office, find your county Veterans representative, or visit the nearest VA benefits office, health facility or Vet Center.
