Nora, a black dog, laying flat on her belly.

Last week I promised to share more about my adventures with my dad, Sheldon. The independence and companionship I provide as a guide dog opens a safer and more expanded world for Dad, who is a blind veteran.

We attended a concert by his favorite singer, Fantasia, and have also seen the amazing Harlem Globetrotters at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. As a team, we have visited the Dallas VA Medical Center often and are both recognized when we serve as volunteers. I have become somewhat of a star in my community, and I love every “nibble” we get! Our most recent adventure was a family vacation to Atlanta visiting Dad’s old stomping grounds.

This year is shaping up to be an even more productive one for me. Dad keeps “barking” about a trip to Phoenix in early June hosted by our friends at Waymo. I have overheard that I will get to ride in one of their autonomous vehicles and participate in a video shoot. In July, I will be attending the BVA National Convention to work and play with my fellow guide dogs. In addition, this fall I will be guiding my dad through a veteran sporting event in Utah. My paws are getting tired just pondering the upcoming adventures. Of course, a saving grace is that there will be considerable napping throughout all the action!

I’ll be back next week. As always, be sure to check out our very own YouTube channel here.
