Four paws up for Jane Flower, Youth Outreach Specialist for Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), who joined the BVA Dog Handlers Group meeting this past Tuesday. Our friend Jane shared information about GDB’s Orientation and Mobility (O&M) Immersion Program for people interested in developing the O&M skills that are most relevant to guide dog mobility.

Traveling independently with a guide dog involves less tactile input than cane travel does. Therefore, the immersion program places a major emphasis on developing non-tactile travel skills while also increasing awareness of the environmental information available to a guide dog traveler.

I could keep yapping, but my advice would be to check out the three-page reference resource here! The resource discusses this free program, specific details, and eligibility. Stay tuned until next week. I will be introducing my fellow Ambassadog for March!

If you are a BVA member and are interested in having your dog featured in the Ambassadog Scoop Series, please send a message via email to bva@bva.org with your contact information, a brief introduction of my fellow guide dog, and a photo or two.
